_[[Key the Metal Idol]]_ has a peculiar plot twist during its last two episodes: [[Key (Key the Metal Idol)|Key]] is not a [[Robot|robot]], but a human forced to have her [[Humanity (Quality)|humanity]] [[Repression (Psychoanalysis)|repressed]] in order to be protected from exploitation. When compared to works like _[[Serial Experiments Lain (Anime)]]_ or _[[Ghost in the Shell (1995 film)]]_, _Key the Metal Idol_ is far more [[Humanism (Philosophy)|humanist]]: not a single instance of [[Artificial intelligence|AI]] appears throughout the [[OVA (Anime distribution type)|OVA]], and most conflicts during the plot center around robots (and technology in general) being used by humans to [[Exploitation (Politics)|exploit]] other humans and (quite literally) steal their [[Life|life]].
